Dear Colleagues,

We have been following with grave concern the overwhelming, tragic events unfolding before us and recognize their deep impact on the wellbeing of our community. We continue to work for peace and justice and, as President Khuri's message on October 11 highlighted, we are unified in our support for our community members.

We are closely monitoring the situation and the publicly available information from different sources. While it is impossible to know the direction of events, the university has put mechanisms in place to protect the safety of students, faculty, and staff, and to ensure the continuation of our mission.

Please know that your safety and wellbeing remain our top priorities. We will communicate with you as the situation unfolds.

Despite many challenges, the staff of the American University of Beirut have managed to navigate with determination and courage similar exceptional and uncertain situations in the past, and we are confident that this time will be no different.

Sincerely,

Joseph G. Otayek
Medical Center Director
American University of Beirut Medical Center
