ACGME-I Accreditation of Specific Residency Programs

Posted on 12/23/2015

In July 2014, AUBMC became the first medical center in Lebanon and the fourth in the world to receive institutional accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-I).

After securing institutional accreditation, we proceeded with the steps needed to apply for accreditation of specific residency programs. The five programs AUBMC applied for were Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and General Surgery. As part of the application process for each residency program, two accreditations were sought:

1. Foundational - which relates to the structure of the program
2. Advanced Specialty - which relates to the residency training itself

All of the above accreditations were granted for the five programs effective July 2015. Our next step will be to work in close collaboration with ACGME-I, secure further accreditation in General Surgery, and be ready for another site re-visit in April 2016.
