The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) held the dedication ceremony for the Medicals International Ophthalmology Conference Room on Thursday, February 6, 2020. The Medicals International Ophthalmology Conference Room is located in the 8th floor of the Halim and Aida Daniel ACC, a major landmark providing a holistic approach to healing and teaching, in an environment that merges patient care, education, and research. The room, which is named in honor of the Medicals International numerous contributions to the Department of Ophthalmology, will provide a collaborative space for doctors that enables them high-performance academic medicine.
The dedication ceremony was attended by Interim Medical Center Director and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ziyad Ghazzal, Chief of Staff, Dr. Samir Alam, Chairperson of the Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Bahaa Noureddine, President and Founder of Medicals International, Mr. Walid Barake, the Barake family, members of the Medicals International senior staff, along with AUBMC leadership and community.
Dr. Noureddine welcomed the guests and thanked Mr. Barake for his philanthropic contribution supporting AUBMC's path to excellence in ophthalmology with the establishment of the Refractive Cataract Surgery Excellence Center that “enjoys the presence of the most sophisticated excimer and femtosecond lasers," bringing the prestigious Ziemer Academy to the AUBMC annually, and the continuous educational contributions that reinforce the center's excellence.
Dr. Ghazzal pointed out the importance of philanthropic donations helping in the advancement of AUBMC to join the most elite medical centers worldwide. He said, “Medicals International's contributions have helped in raising the standards of the Department of Ophthalmology and set an example for how someone can continuously help in advancing healthcare and make our community a better place."
Mr. Barake thanked AUBMC and its community for their trust during the past 25 years and said, “Our instances of collaboration and contribution with the AUBMC are numerous. Twelve years ago, we have developed a donation program with the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon. This program has been engaging our employees, customers, and end-users to be part of giving back". He then added, “This mission pushed us to provide educational advancement supported by establishing the first Refractive Surgery Fellowship Program and bringing the Ziemer Academy to the institution."
