The Developmental Care and Early Intervention Program (DCEIP) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) celebrated for the fourth year the 7th International Kangaroo Care Awareness Day on May 13th, 2017. Parents were invited to an interactive session about Kangaroo care. Ms Saadieh Masri DCEIP coordinator gave an introductory lecture and a former NICU mother shared her experience with parents before opening the session for questions and discussion. After refreshments, parents were invited to hold their infants and to practice Kangaroo care during their NICU visit. Mothers and fathers were highly satisfied from the experience. Most importantly infants showed signs of more stable condition, initiated breastfeeding earlier than expected and slept for a longer period of time.
Parents were awarded certificates from the DCEIP team for their participation at the NICU annual Kangaroo Awareness Day.
This event would not have happened without the support of the senior leadership, the dedication of the medical and nursing staff and the enthusiasm of our NICU parents.
